About the Artist
Born in 1989 in Anahiem Ca, Brian has been studying multiple mediums of art since early grade school at Faylane Elementary School in Garden Grove California, and fell in love with tattoo art and the watercolor teqnique know as spit shading in 2008. He apprenitced at Black Umbrella Tattoo Collective in Garden Grove, Ca under the shops original owner Kurtis Gibson starting in early 2014 when the shop first opened. He has a passion for studying and learning new techniques and different cultures especially Ukiyo-e wood block and watercolors along with American Traditinal Folk Art, Neo Traditional Tattoo Art, and Illistration. He uses all his knowledge he has collected from other artists and studies to try and create his own unique style. When he is not tattooing or painting, he enjoys writing his first novel, searching for lost artifacts as an amateur archeologist, and creating bonsai.
Hello my name is Brian. I ussually start my creative process by a spark of inspiration whether it is a squirell purched on a rock I saw while out fishing on the river, seeing something on T.V. or doing research on other projects. Once the over all image is burned into my brain I will loosley sketch the image out on paper or on my I pad while also using multiple references. After the drawing is defined and sculpted, I then will outline the image onto watercolor paper with markers or brush and ink and painted with liquid acrylics and watercolor. Alot of culture, rules, and technique is applied which requires alot of study. As a closing statement I would now like to give a quote that was told to me by my mentor. "Don't ask how people do things, ask why they do them" -Kurtis Gibson
