About the Artist

Raised in Norwalk, California, Jose explores the complexities of a first-generation upbringing through his art. While societal pressures steer many into traditional careers, Jose has nurtured his creative spirit since childhood. From filmmaking in his teens to acting and playwriting in college, he’s consistently engaged with various mediums. His heritage and travels greatly influenced his vision, motivating him to learn new mediums of expression. Music has been his focus the last decade, but the path of introspection has led him back to illustrations.

Jose now finds himself amongst the vibrant cultures of Southern California. The resulting art carries a wide spectrum of themes and subjects. Such as empathy, addiction, violence, mental health, and otherness. The work, characterized by quirky characters with a blend of sarcasm and levity, is often sketched onto unconventional surfaces. Jose’s desire for raw expression was ignited by his early influences, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Charles Bukowski to name a few. Like those before, he strives to bring out greater truths through messy, honest delivery.

While his prolific sketching has been well-known among his peers, Jose seeks to find an entrepreneurial niche while embracing his bohemian sensibilities. He remains deeply connected to local art communities, regularly attending galleries and concerts. He hopes to bring his latest works to the public and put his latest learnings into practice.
