Painting | Tucson, AZ
My name is Carol Steffgen and I am an artist living in Tucson Arizona. When I moved to the desert I fell in love with its austere beauty. The mountains, the saguaro giant cactus, the incredibly gorgeous sunsets. Everything around me inspired me to paint. I love using brilliant color to bring the viewer inside. My figures are the communication pull. They grab the viewer and lead them into the perimeters of the canvas.

ARTIST STATEMENT
My work was originally inspired by my grandfather who was a professional calligrapher. He made scrolls for the queen of England. Sitting on his lap at his huge desk with his bottles of ink and quill pens truly inspired the artist in me. I studied art all through school. And when I graduated with a degree in fine arts, I took my talents to the streets and first worked for a sign painter and then moved on to my first gallery. The Karin Newby Gallery in Tubac Arizona. There I created many Southwest Native American paintings. From there I painted many different subjects, i.e. angels, animals, flowers, sunsets, etc. My work is my soul and communication is my goal. If I touch someone with my paintings, I have succeeded.
