Meet Abstract Artist Marcus Maldonado

For September 2026, Bee+Hive Artist Collective is proud to feature abstract artist Marcus Maldonado, whose evolving practice explores thoughts and emotions through color, form, intuition, and personal expression.

For Marcus, painting provides a language for things that are not always easily communicated through words. His work creates space for both expression and interpretation, inviting viewers to experience each piece through the lens of their own emotions and experiences.

His goal is simple but meaningful: to share his artistic vision with the community while creating work that evokes joy, peace, beauty, and connection.

From First-Time Exhibitor to BHAC Featured Artist

Marcus's journey with Bee+Hive Artist Collective began in April 2026 when he participated in our first showcase at Black Umbrella Tattoo & Art Gallery in Old Town Garden Grove, California.

It was a significant evening for Marcus. Until then, he had never publicly exhibited his abstract paintings.

By the end of the night, three of his pieces had sold.

There is something powerful about that first moment of putting your work on a wall and allowing strangers to experience something that, until then, has largely belonged to you. For Marcus, that first exhibition opened the door to something more.

In the months since, he has continued painting, experimenting, and developing his visual language.

An Evolving Abstract Art Practice

Marcus's paintings move through color, geometry, symbolism, gesture, and abstraction, allowing his work to evolve rather than confining it to a single visual style.

His creative influences also have roots in his family history. Marcus has spoken about the influence of his great-uncle, Mexican muralist Xavier Guerrero, adding another dimension to a creative practice that remains distinctly his own.

Yet Marcus isn't interested in telling viewers exactly what they should see.

Part of the experience of abstract art is what happens between the artwork and the person standing in front of it. A shape, color, movement, or composition may evoke something entirely different from one viewer to another.

That freedom of interpretation is part of what makes Marcus's work compelling.

Marcus Maldonado Returns to Black Umbrella in September

Now Marcus returns to the place where his exhibiting journey with BHAC began.

Beginning September 11, 2026, a new collection of Marcus Maldonado's artwork will be on view at Black Umbrella Tattoo & Art Gallery in Old Town Garden Grove throughout September.

This exhibition offers an opportunity to see where his practice has gone since that first showcase and experience a larger selection of his work together.

For BHAC, Marcus's progression from first-time exhibitor to September Featured Artist represents something we deeply believe in: sometimes an artist simply needs an opportunity to put the work out into the world and see what happens next.

Marcus did.

And this is only the next chapter.
